Madurai the Temple City of South India with a 2500 years old history is the oldest city in Tamil Nadu both historically and mythologically. Situated on the banks of river Vaigai, Madurai the temple city is the second largest city of Tamilnadu. Madurai was an important cultural and commercial centre even as early as 550 AD. Madurai was the capital city of the great Pandya Kings. It is originally a forest known as Kadambavanam.

Sivakasi is famous for Fireworks and Matches and is called Japan of South India. Information Technology Park and Textile Park are also being set up in and around Madurai. Tirunelveli is the centre of Bidi Manufacturing activities and there is a concentration of Cashew Industry in Nagercoil.
